Farm payments for environmental stewardship

The Environmental Stewardship Scheme funds farmers in England to keep their land in good agricultural and environmental condition. The scheme improves land, benefits wildlife, and provides life support for small traditional farms that can't compete with industrial agriculture. But it also subsidises golf courses and grouse moors, and the vast majority of the payments go to larger landowners.

This map shows for the first time how more than £2.6 billion of current Environmental Stewardship grants are allocated. You can search for a recipient, or read the blog post for more details.

Entries listed as "Unavailable" are payments below £2,500, for which full details are not released.
